Shinedown
With
Wayland
And
Greta Van Fleet
At
20 Monroe Live
Grand Rapids, Michigan
20 Monroe Live hosted Shinedown, Wayland and Greta Van Fleet which was the venue's first sold out show on Saturday, February 4th. 20 Monroe Live is a brand new venue that just had their grand opening February 1st. The rock fans endured the cold windchills waiting in line that ran from the 20 Monroe Live doors and spiraled around The Bob and down roughly 3 city blocks long.
The best way to judge a venue is to see how they treat their customers, how security is, how the venue sounds with a concert going, and when they do sound checks. Every worker at 20 Monroe Live was courteous and welcoming to everyone. When there were any troubles in the crowd, security was on the spot taking care of the problem immediately, that way everyone can enjoy the show safely. The sound system was loud and clean without any distortion. It is a brand new venue with a great future entertaining in Grand Rapids.
Greta Van Fleet: The band consists of Jake Kiszka on guitar, Josh Kiszka on vocals, Danny Wagner on drums and Sam Kiszka on bass/keys. Greta Van Fleet’s hometown is Frankenmuth. The band’s influences are Jefferson Airplane, Jimi Hendrix, Robert Johnson, Eric Clapton, Howlin Wolf, Janis Joplin, John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, Cream, The Who, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Willie Dixon, Albert Collins and The Doors. Josh Kiszka belting out vocals reminded of a mixture of Dio and Robert Plant.
This band is the total package with burning fast rock riffs to the rock thunder on bass and drums.
The way they play honors the bands that they like listed above. They have style, energy, and great showmanship that keeps the crowd captivated by this young band that perform like seasoned rock veterans.

Wayland, no matter how many times you see them, they put on a great show with plenty of energy to keep the crowd going/rocking out. The songs are all great but my son and I caught ourselves singing to Fire Down Below, Bloody Sunrise, and Reno. Wayland is the total rock package with great vocals, face melting guitar playing, face melting bass and drums.

Shinedown: The band is made up of Brent Smith on lead vocals, Barry Kerch on drums, Zach Myers on guitar/backup vocals, and Eric Bass on bass/backing vocals. Shinedown is on tour in support of their album titled, "Threat To Survival," released in 2015. The band was formed in 2001, in Jacksonville, Florida.
As we waited in line my metal son and I reminisced about the other Shinedown shows that we covered, one was the Allegan Fairgrounds and the other was the Rock The Rapids Festival. There was one thing that each had in common, which was the captivating performances. The true test of a band is to grab the crowd and keep them enjoying the show and forgetting about the everyday worries of life.
Shinedown is more than captivating, they make the concert experience magical. As we made it out onto the freeway we realised we had a great time like everyone else but also we felt good about ourselves. This is such a unique experience that it’s even hard to set words to the concert experience.
A perfect example of this was at the Allegan Fairgrounds when Shinedown performed "The Crow & the Butterfly". Everyone riding rides or sitting outside the show stopped what they were doing and just soaked in the great and magical rock experience. This made you have a feeling that time stood still for a moment.

Sounds
One of the most down to earth influential cover songs would be "Simple Man," it perfectly describes how I try to live my life. My whole family loves the Shinedown cover of "Simple Man" and also the original performed by Lynyrd Skynyrd equally. The songs "Diamond Eyes", "The Crow & the Butterfly", "Cut The Cord," and "45" are our favorites of Shinedown.
