Wings Event Center

It was a decent evening to go to a concert this past Tuesday night right after work.  It was comfortable standing in line.  I always talk to others about the bands that are playing and if anyone has been to their live shows.

Just then I was thinking back in the early 80’s when my wife and I went to see John Waite at the Allegan Fair.  Ted Nugent was at the show as well, both bands back then made it unforgettable/epic.  Many people in line had stories to tell about seeing both bands.

What was interesting was seeing all different age groups showing up for the concert.  This shows the timelessness of the great music that is made.

John Waite:  The band consists of John Waite on lead vocals/guitar, Tim Hogan on bass, Mark Ricciardi on guitar, and Alan Childs on drums.   The band opened, getting the crowd warmed up for the headliner.  The band caught the crowds attention and kept them energized for the headline show.

My favorite song picks from John Waite were titled When I See You Smile, Everytime I Think Of You, and Missing You.  These songs are timeless masterpieces that define them.

John Waite setlist:

  1. Midnight Rendezvous (by The Babys)

  2. Change

  3. Best Of What I Got (by Bad English)

  4. When I See You Smile (by Bad English)

  5. Everytime I Think Of You (by The Babys)

  6. Missing You

  7. Head First (by The Babys)

  8. Back On My Feet Again (by The Babys)

  9. Whole Lotta Love/Let Me Love You Baby

Styx:  The band consists of Tommy Shaw on guitars/lead vocals/backing vocals/mandolin/banjo, James Young on guitars/backing vocals/lead vocals/keyboards, Chuck Panozzo on bass/backing vocals, Todd Sucherman on drums/percussion/backing vocals, Lawrence Gowan on keyboards/backing vocals/lead vocals/acoustic guitar, Will Evankovich on guitar/backing vocals/mandolin/keyboards, and Terry Gowan on bass/backing vocals.  The band formed in 1972 in Chicago, Illinois.

Hearing the band live for the first time was epic/magical.  I couldn’t pick one bad song on the setlist.  I thought back to hearing the band for the first time on the radio.

It’s a back in the day story.  I used to listen to the band play on WLS am radio.  The band did an excellent job drawing the crowd in and making them forget about their every day worries and experience the music.

So, for Styx, my favorite song picks on the setlist is the whole setlist, they’re that great of rock masterpieces that define this band to also make them timeless.

  1. The Grand Illusion

  2. To Much Time On My Hands
